Best of Beauty: 2016

Oh god where have I been? Who knows, moving, sleeping, living, stressing. The usual. BUT since it is a new year I thought, “You know what, I have been using only a few products during the ENTIRE year, so maybe lets talk about that on the blog today”.

And that is exactly what we are doing.

So I have gathered up my favorites from all different makeup categories to bring you my best of beauty 2016.

Some may look at the fact that I haven’t tried a ton of new things out this year as me being in a rut but I would almost consider it that I like what I like and I’m potentially scared to buy new things and HATE it.

I love the products that I have been using all year and I want to share it with you!

So without further ado, lets talk the best of beauty.

I guess how I will go about this is in the order of how I put on my makeup.

Primer: Smashbox Primer Oil

I love this primer to give me that dewy look. I love it under my eyes and on my more drier areas of my face. It just moisturizes my skin and makes me feel healthy! Since I have oily skin though, I usually wear it only under makeup that I know lasts a long time without the oil underneath or I go for the full out glow and do a lighter more luminous foundation and glow it out for a couple of quality looking hours.

Foundation: 3 (Dior, Giorgio Armani & IT)

There were 3 foundations that really knocked my socks off this year and each of them is a little different than the rest (so yes they are all necessary for those of you who are beauty hoarders). Lets talk about the 1st one I found this year… the It Cosmetics CC Cream with Illumination. (I’m shade fair.) I used this every single day over the summer (and that is not an exaggeration). It lasted me through the heat, all day, while working and looked good even if I was a little more oilier from the summer weather. The only downside is it is a little too dark for me so I need a little color on my body for this one. Now for the 2nd… The Dior Airflash foundation. I love this one so much I even did a post on it here. This one really stands out to me because it gives me more of a matte finish and lasts ALL DAY. Legit all day. Only downside is it is a little dark for me. (Typical.) (The shade I use is 100.) And for the 3rd… a newer purchase of mine but an absolute obsession… The Giorgio Armani Maestro foundation. And this one actually matches me perfectly. (I am in shade 3.) It might be even more perfect than my Airflash! I also love the finish of this one. It is very natural. Maybe a little matte for me in the beginning of the day despite its oilier feel. But this one lasts a fair amount too!

Eyebrows: Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz

This product has been a ride or die product for YEARS. I love this bad boy and it is completely worth the money. The tip is super fine and slightly waxy so it just stays all day. I use the shade medium brown for that slight contrast of blonde hair and darker eyebrows.

Eyebrows: Elf Brow Gel

I don’t know how long I have been using this but I love it. It is my cheap little find that is perfect for the girl on a budget with the need for a good brow gel. Only $2 and I love it.

Concealer: Giorgio Armani Retouch Concealer

I have had this product for so long but have forgotten about how amazing it was. This year I have rediscovered it and have re-fallen in love. What is different about this concealer than other concealers is this one it meant for spot correcting. The brush is long and narrow and the concealer itself is super pigmented and perfect for covering any pimples. I use shade 2.

And on the other hand…

Concealer: Urban Decay Concealer

Although I don’t have this one in my makeup bag right now, it is a favorite. I use this one more under my eye to cover my bags. I like this one especially because it is super hydrating while still covering what needs to be covered. I use shade fair neutral.

Powder: Mac Mineralize Skin Finish

I have used this for a long time and still haven’t kit pan. A miracle. Seriously. What I love so much about this powder is that it doesn’t make me super matte. I love a glow and this powder sets my face, not until its super super matte, but naturally and lets my skin look like skin. For a brief time I even used this as a foundation. (I use shade light.)

and…

Powder: RCMA No Color Powder

This is my saving grace when I need my makeup to last ALL DAY. I love this one in particular when I need to bake my face. Clean up that contour, set my under-eyes, and clean up any messes.

Bronzer: Too Faced Milk Chocolate

This is the perfect bronzer for fair skin! I hate when bronzers make me look orange or muddy and this one doesn’t do either. It flatters my fairness and gives me a little color back after my foundation cancels out and evens the redness in my skin.

Contour: Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit

Fawn is my life when it comes to contour. Personally I don’t think you need the entire contour kit (even though I do own the entire thing) but just get the colors that work for you. I literally only use the middle lighter brown with gray undertones to contour my cheekbones and nose.

Blush: Mac Buff

I am always into blush IF it is light and not super dramatic. I love subtle blush. Not pink stripes. That isn’t cute. But Mac Buff (for my skin) is the perfect touch of nude pink that gives life to my skin without overly coloring.

Eyeshadow: Colourpop Super Shock Shadows

I’ve written a post about Colourpop previously (check it out here) and if you read that you will know I am a Colourpop fanatic. The formula is out of the ordinary and is intense. These are my favorite for more special outings or for a pop of sparkle. My favorites include Amaze, Lovely, Paisley, and Birthday Girl.

Eyeliner: (Pencil) Nars Via Veneto

One of my favorite beauty tricks is to use black eyeliner to make my lash line look more full. Being that I don’t have crazy long lashes or anything, I notice that when I do this, my eyelashes look longer, blacker and more full. This eyeliner is super black, stays put but isn’t impossible to get off. Where as other eyeliners may be impossible to get off or trick me thinking I got it all off but then I wake up to having raccoon eyes. Not cute.

Eyeliner: (Liquid) Kat Von D Tattoo Eyeliner

Liquid eyeliner isn’t one of those things that I do on the daily. Hell it isn’t something I do on the weekly either. But on more special occasions or when I am going out I like to spice it up and do a thin, simple little wing just for some added oomph. The Kat Von D eyeliner is most definitely my favorite. The brush isn’t felt  and applies so precisely. It completely stands out. Again, it stays on all day but doesn’t give me a hard time when I am ready to take it off and end my day.

Mascara: Benefit Roller Lash

Forever I haven’t been into buying nicer mascaras. Maybe because I never noticed a difference in how my lashes looked, or my lashes just were too short to even notice a difference. But now I am a nicer mascara convert. Now I’m not talking nice being YSL or Dior. For me a nicer mascara is just one that you can’t find in the drug store. (My favorite drugstore mascara is Lash Sensational by Maybelline.) But my favorite mascara from this year has been the Benefit Roller Lash. Hands down amazing. It separates my lashes while lengthening them and making my eyelashes look more full and voluminous. Even for my shorter eyelashes, I can see a difference with the roller lash.

Highlighter: Sephora Luminizing Drops in Morning Light

These where my ride or die all summer. I felt like a glowing goddess every single time I put these on the high points of my face. All summer my combo was these drops on top of the IT cosmetics foundation and some bronzer. When the sun hit my cheeks I was seriously glowing. I just felt like I looked so healthy and beautiful.

Highlighter: Becca Moonstone Liquid

This has been my go to for the past few months since I have been a little more on the fair side. It is a gorgeous white yellow gold color. In comparison to the Sephora drops, the Becca product is more pigmented, but the Sephora drops give the skin a more hydrated glow. These products are very similar in their color just the finish of the product is a little different.

Highlighter: Glossier Haloscope in Quartz

Lastly, if you read this post you would know that I am all about Glossier products. (Click here to get 20% off your first order!) And along with the lotion and face wash that I bought I also ordered their Haloscope highlighter. It is made using actual very finely crushed quartz with a moisturizing core. This product is a lot more subtle than the other two that I have listed already but I used this product a lot in the fall. I wouldn’t say that you get shimmer as intensely as a regular highlighter but what you get with this is a glow. The skin just looks so healthy when you put it on. I am lusting over the Haloscope in topaz right now.

Finally onto Lips…

Lips: Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Lipstick in  Kim K.W.

I love a nude lip. This one along with the Mac Lipstick below and the Nars Lipstick below are just the perfect nude for me and my fair skin! This one is super creamy and pigmented. Compared to the Mac x Mariah Carey one, the Charlotte Tilbury one is more peachy pink than pinky nude.

Lips: Jeffree Star Liquid Lipstick in  Designer Blood

I am obsessed with dark red lipsticks. I actually wore this one day while I was in NYC and it lasted all day (until we ate fried chicken). I love how it gives more dimension with the fine bit of sparkle in the product. This lipstick isn’t super drying and lasts while you eat and drink (unless its fried chicken).

Lips: Mac x Mariah Carey Lipstick in McIzzle

Along with the Charlotte Tilbury lipstick I love this Mariah Carey x Mac lipstick for a nude creamy lip. However the Mac x Mariah Carey one is more nude pink. Again super creamy and pigmented. Plus this one has just over the top stunning packaging.

Lips: Nars Velvet Lip Glide in Stripped

This lipstick is different than any other I have tried. It looks like a liquid lipstick but it doesn’t try down. It has the pigment of a liquid lipstick and the feel without it becoming matte. I love it. This lipstick shade is very similar to the Mac x Mariah Carey one but is a little more light. It keeps my lips moisturized and looking plush.

Let me know below what your favorite beauty products of 2016 were!

xx, Chandler
