My Reading Obsession (right now)

Today we are going to take a little break from all of the beauty talk and get a little real.

Do you ever have one of those days where you just don’t feel like a boss ass bitch or you just can’t take on the world? Maybe everyday? Maybe somedays? If never, then you have complete control of your life and that is amazing. But the likelihood of that being the case, I personally think, is pretty unlikely. Because even the happiest person in the world, has a bad day now and again.

I know that sometimes I think about the future and where I might be headed and have to deal with in the work world later on in life and it brings me down. Really. I thank my class on leadership, that I took this past spring for my major, for having me read a book by Joann Lublin. She highlights all of the struggles women face in the work world from harassment, to being unable to advance, to being paid less, to maternity leave, and it was rough. It was rough to read because I know I might end up in that situation in life based on my gender, my perceived lack of skills because of my gender or the societal norms and characteristics placed on gender.

Not to get too deep, or poke too much into this topic, because it could be a series of books, but somedays, I feel like I am going to be unsuccessful, and that is when I read these amazing articles.

Every time I have one of those low self empowerment days, one of the days where I just want to sulk around, a day where I feel as if I may accomplish nothing in my life, I head straight to Violet Grey.

I touched a little bit on my love for this website (on this post), in particular the reading materials they provide, in another post. But like I said, I could dedicate a whole post to it. So here I am.

Let’s talk about Violet Grey’s Woman Made reading material.

Violet Grey kills it with their interviews with female entrepreneurs that are changing the beauty industry.

You have interviews from amazing women who are steering the beauty industry, succeeding, making a name for themselves, and becoming forces to be reckoned with.

Women such as Kylie Jenner, someone who is successful at such a young age, women who own and lead some of the most famous brand names that you know in Sephora or Nordstrom. Women who are fulfilling their dreams now have interviews up on Violet Grey’s blog, that make you feel like you can accomplish anything you want to.

That is why I wanted to dedicate an entire post to these interviews. They are empowering, entertaining, and helpful. You can walk away from an article wanting to create the next beauty brand, or parallel the information and topics talked about into what you truly want to do. No matter who you are, what you want to do, if you want to be an entrepreneur or work for someone, these articles are worth reading and checking out.

Below, I have some of my favorite interviews linked for you to read. They have interviewed cult brands, newer brands, and women who are successful not just with a brand but from other accomplishments and careers that they have.

{All of the interviews}

My favorites include:
Emily Weiss // Jen Atkin // Anastasia Soare // Dr. Barbara Sturm // Linda Rodin // Mathilde Thomas
Charlotte Tilbury // Tata Harper // Jessica Alba // Rose-Marie Swift // Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

You can do anything you want if you put your time, energy, heart and soul into that thing. No matter what it is, you can succeed and accomplish your goals no matter how big, or small.

xx, Chandler
