I love skincare and beauty. I think I said that in my last post, but here I am, saying it again.
I also love reading about skincare, the science behind it, benefits, what certain things do for your skin. One of my goals this year is to learn more about the benefits of certain ingredients in skincare. And I love reading these posts. A wrap up, the best of the best of that year skincare and beauty wise.
So to wrap up 2017, I am telling you all about my favorite products that I used this year. Hair, skin, makeup etc. in this post. You can also check out my 2016 favorites here.
Sunscreen // Glossier Invisible Shield
This sunscreen feels like a magical serum… but one that protects your face from environmental factors and from UVA and UVB rays. It gives me this gorgeous glow but if you’re not into that, it can be mattified really quickly with powder. But sometimes I only put on sunscreen and concealer and it looks gorgeous. It is also really versatile by how if I forget to put it on before foundation, I will gently pat and press it in on top of makeup.
Foundation // Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint
I honestly struggled to figure out which foundation would be #1 for 2017… I went back and forth to the It Cosmetics CC Cream but honestly, even when using the It CC cream, I still always mixed in the Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint. Always. I am not a huge fan, for me, for really intense foundation. I like something light, really anything that doesn’t look heavy. Even if the Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint isn’t enough coverage for you, try mixing it with a heavier foundation to lighten the coverage up and add luminosity!
Powder // Glossier Wowder
I have been using my Glossier Wowder non-stop since I got it and it is perfect. I love that it keeps me matte, without drying me out, and without looking cakey, AND keeping a lumious not flat appearance of my skin. God send product. And yes, the brush is worth buying. I think it works great with the powder and am thinking about buying a second one for other powder products.
Concealer // Glossier Stretch Concealer
WOW this concealer changed the game for me. Really Glossier did as a whole but this product made me realize your under eyes don’t have to be dry looking! I used to slather on eye cream before putting on concealer and still, after setting with powder, I looked dry, and gross. I didn’t understand how it was possible since I have oily skin, but Glossier’s Stretch Concealer changed the game for me. I like a hydrated under eye, lighter coverage than some of the intense high coverage concealers on the market and this one is it… WITH still covering spots easily. You just have to try this one.
Bronzer // Charlotte Tilbury Bronzer
This is more of a later discovery in the year, But I love the Charlotte Tilbury Bronzer! It is so sheer, but in the best way. It is sheer in the aspect where I can build it up on my fair skin so it doesn’t look like an orange stripe on my cheek with first swipe. I loved the one in my travel palette so much I made the plunge and bought the full sized Bronze and Glow.
Highlight // Glossier Haloscope
This is hands down THE highlighter of 2017. I took a little bit of a break when I was super back into powder products but I put it on and remembered why I love it so much. It is super flattering on multiple skin tones and can be more subtle and made more intense depending on how much you put on. My favorite shade is Quartz but sometimes if I’m feeling extra I will use Topaz as a bronzer and to give me a sunglasses tan a bit, Quartz as a highlight and Moonstone on my nose and brow bone for that sweaty glow. Since it has a dew core to the product, it gives you more of a natural but still buildable highlight. I love it. I even have a backup of this one.
Blush // Glossier Cloud Paint in Dusk
I never thought I would or could be a cream blush gal. Oily skin, why would I use cream products? don’t I want powder? Nope not necessarily. Especially when Glossier created the best cream blush ever that dries to a powder finish but comfortable. Dusk in particular is my favorite since it is a buff pinky shade that I think is universally flattering. Sometimes I even use it as a bronzer and blush just based on where I place the product. The product itself is super pigmented, blendable, and easy to work with, but when it dries, it stays in place. (By the way, I love all of the blush shades!)
Mascara // Maybelline Lash Sensational
Mascara is usually one of the things in my routine that I switch up. Part of me wanted to put the Chanel Le Volume Mascara as my top mascara, but as a drugstore mascara lover, I had to list the mascara I used 9 months out of the year. I love the Lash Sensational. It isn’t too wet, but is more wet than dry. Dry isn’t necessarily my favorite because then it flakes on me, but a nice in between is what I strive for. And after using for a bit, Lash Sensational is then my favorite. Sometimes I even just open the package for a bit and then close it after an hour. But it gets there.
When I purchased this palette initially I was nervous. Mixed reviews, and questions like, “is it worth the money?”, “how big are the pans?”, “should I get a different one?” all crossed my mind when I bought it. But I knew that it would be perfect for a traveling, bronze loving, natural blush wearing gal like me. But truly, this palette is everything for me. You not only have a full face in this palette you also have a whole eyeshadow palette since all of the shades can be used on the eyes and on the face.
Over the course of the year I went back and forth using gel and then to pencil and then both depending on how my eyebrows looked and what I thought the needed. I love the brow wiz but am looking for a new product that doesn’t cost $21 and one where the spoole doesn’t break off. But I just haven’t found anything like it exactly. It is the perfect brow product. And on the other hand, so is the boy brow. The boy brow is pomade-esque, and keeps my unruly brow hairs in place all day.
Brows (and lashes) have been my biggest focus this year I feel.
Eyeshadow // Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerize in Bette
I’m not the biggest eyeshadow gal, but when I do want to put on more of a fun eye, it always involves a bronzey gold. Since I have oilier eyelids, I also need something that will stay all day and the Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerize in Bette is pretty much perfect. The “higher” price tag for a pot of eyeshadow, especially for a gal who doesn’t wear eyeshadow, is so worth it because it will last forever! I use it all over my eyelids, on my lower lash line, mixing with other creams or eyeshadows and as eyeliner.
Everyday Lip // Glossier Generation G
Tool // Sigma Duo Fiber Brush
Cleanser // Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser
This cleanser is everything to me. I have never experienced a face wash similar to this that is as cleansing (without stripping), hydrating (without over hydrating) cleanser. Ever. This is a product that will ALWAYS be on my top shelf and always in my skincare family. You can read more here and here (and probably many other places under the “Glossier” tab.
Serum // Glossier Super Pure
I know I didn’t take a picture of this bad boy but this was a savior to my skin the majority of the year. (And when I needed it most, I didn’t have access to it.) This serum helped calm down existing breakouts I had and prevented breakouts from popping up. I am needing to pick up another one of these for those days where my skin might need a little boost on the acne prevention side. You really should try this serum!!
Lip Balm // Glossier Balm Dot Com
Lip balm is essential to me. But no one likes a chapstick that doesn’t hydrate or doesn’t last. For me, the Glossier Balm Dotcom’s are necessary in my day to day life. I use them at night before I go to bed, in the morning to keep my lips hydrated and during the day if I want a little lip pick me up. And nothing lasts or works as well, and is as nice in price, as the Glossier Balm Dotcoms. I have all of the flavors and my favorites are Coconut, Birthday Cake and Cherry and Rose.
I am a lover of oil. Oily skin gals, you can love oils, it is possible. I love Rose Hip Seed Oil (which I talked about why and all the benefits in this post). It just seems to jive with my skin. Even if you have oily skin, or even combination skin, (dry and normal skin is also included) oils can work for you. Don’t knock it until you try it. I actually noticed that my skin glowed more, produces less oil, and dark spots went away while using this oil. And The Ordinary’s one is super cheap!
Moisturizer // Glossier Priming Moisturizer Rich
I love the Glossier Priming Moisturizer Rich. I mean obviously since it is in this post but I truly think this one is worth it. I tried out other moisturizers this year but nothing compared. Even with oily skin, I love a thicker nighttime moisturizer so my skin can soak up all of the goodness at night and I wear a lighter moisturizer during the day. This is one is rich and luxurious and has a faint lavender scent that does not irritate my sensitive skin.
Acid // Biologique Recherche P50 1970
This is probably the most expensive but worth it product I own. It has transformed my skin even within the few weeks I recently have had it again. It reduced my acne, acne scarring, dark marks, and has improved my skin’s texture, added glow to my skin and overall it looks so much healthier and better. I highly highly highly recommend this product! Even the mini size is a good trial amount.
Spot Treatment // Clean + Clear Persa-gel 10
This has been my ride or die spot treatment for a long long time. Nothing reduces my spots like this stuff. Salicylic acid doesn’t quite have the same impact on my skin as benzoyl peroxide, and on top of that, this stuff is cheaper, so this is a win in my book. I also always go in with a scrub after the spot is gone since it does sometimes leave flakiness.
Lashes // GrandeLash Serum
This has been one of the biggest overall “look” game-changers in 2017. I started using this over the summer and now my lashes are long, luscious and I absolutely love the way they look. This product is something I will use forever because the results are really just that good. Check out my post on it here.
Lastly just a little did bit on my hair favorites…
Shampoo + Conditioner // Ouai Clean
I love all of the Ouai products I’ve tried but my favorites are the ‘Clean’ shampoo and conditioner. The main thing that stood out to me about this set is that my hair stayed clean longer while using it. It cleansed, removed product buildup but wasn’t stripping at all. Check out my in detail post here.
Dry Shampoo // Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo
This dry shampoo is the true hero of 2017. It works so well and my hair looks the best, the longest while using this dry shampoo. And trust me, I’ve tried a fair amount of dry shampoos in my day (being a dry shampoo lover and all).
Oil // Gisou Honey Hair Oil
I know this product is newer into my arsenal, but it is so different than any hair oil I’ve used. This one is super light, moisturizing, nourishing and keeps my hair shiny and silky without ever looking too oily. Check out my in detail post here.
Let me know your 2017 favorites please! Love trying out new products!
