Glossier decided to enter the serious skincare world with their Solution. Solution is a chemical exfoliant that is a mix of AHA, BHA and PHA. The purpose of Solution is to gently get rid of dead cells through chemical exfoliation. It works by dissolving “glue” of problematic dead cells to the healthy skin beneath. It promises with daily use, that you should expect cleared acne and blackheads, smaller pores, and reduced redness. As for skin texture, it promises that skin will be smoother and softer, and give a glow leaving your healthiest skin.
So the next real discussion, is the difference between AHAs and BHAs, benefits for the skin for different types of AHAs and BHAs and find out what formula is best for your skin type.
AHA vs. BHA: AHA stands for Alpha Hydroxy Acid, BHA stands for Beta Hydroxy Acid. AHA’s are applied to your skin and gently exfoliate your skin and slough off the dead skin that leads to dullness, acne and a gross look when you put on makeup. Add AHAs to your skincare routine and you will reveal beautiful glowing skin. They also help reduce the appearance of acne scars, age-related spots, pigmentation and firm the skin, promote collagen production and reduce fine lines.
The main BHA that people use is slycilic acid. This is great for oily skin or combination skin types because BHAs are oil soluble so they are more effective.
Lactic Acid: A super popular AHA that is super beneficial to the skin. It is derived from milk, fruit, vegetables, and other plants. Lactic acid reduces wrinkles and fine lines, brightens the skin, signs of aging, reduces oiliness, reduces acne and works to diminish dark spots. It is more also more gentle than glycolic acid.
Glycolic Acid: It is derived from sugar cane and other natural sugars such as pineapple and sugar beets. It is a holy grail acid for chemical exfoliation because it effectively removes the outermost layer of dead skin to reveal healthy glowy skin. Glycolic acid treats scarring, skin discoloration and signs of aging, like fine lines and wrinkles. It is also great for hydration since it can take moisture from the air and transfer it to skin molecules. I love glycolic because it leaves my skin glowing and leaves my skin plump.
Salicylic Acid: It is derived from the bark of the willow tree. Salicylic acid exfoliated skin, fights acne, fades acne scars and blemishes, opens and unclogs pores, and helps reduce oiliness of skin. It also promotes cell turnover and thereby helps fight wrinkles, reduces skin inflammation, and loosens blackheads.
Gluconolactone: A PHA that offers all benefits as AHAs but is more gentle to the skin. Gluconolactone is attracted to water so the molecules pulls water out of the air and allow it to be absorbed by the skin. It helps to soften and soothe dry skin and replenish lost moisture. Gluconolactone forms a barrier on the skin, preventing moisture already present in the tissue from evaporating.
Anti-stress Complex: Ultra-soothing aloe, hydrating glycerin, and calming niacinamide. Aloe is healing and anti-inflammatory. Glycerin attracts moisture to the skin, and keeps skin soft and supple. Niacinamide reduces enlarge pores, uneven skin tone, and dullness.
